We are a small family team, and our journey to opening The Sensory Snug has been shaped by the people we love most. Our son was diagnosed as autistic at the age of two, twenty one years ago. Since then, our family has been on a path filled with learning, joy, real challenges, and a determination that has never once wavered.

Like so many families, we spent years searching for places where he could feel comfortable, accepted, and truly himself. Places that understood. Places that did not ask him to be different. Those places were not easy to find, and that experience stayed with us. It became the seed of everything you see here today.

We also know that finding the right places can be difficult for the whole family. Our daughter has grown up alongside her brother’s journey, and as parents we have often found ourselves searching for somewhere that would allow them both to enjoy being out together, somewhere our son could feel comfortable and supported, while our daughter could also relax, have fun, and simply enjoy being with her family. Finding places where everyone could feel happy, included and comfortable at the same time was not always easy.

Alongside our son’s journey, we have also been walking alongside a family member living with dementia. That experience gave us a second, equally powerful understanding of what it means to need a space that is calm, inclusive, and genuinely designed around the person.

All of these experiences have shaped The Sensory Snug. We wanted to create somewhere that understands that every person and every family is different, a place where people can come as they are, where individual needs are respected, and where families can spend time together without having to choose between one person’s comfort and everyone else’s enjoyment.
